Paul's Story is about saving lives

It is a fictional story that follows Paul Underhill and Chantal Leblanc, two New Brunswick high school students, as they deal with the terrible consequences of a decision to drink and drive.

Every year in New Brunswick young lives are senselessly lost or destroyed by automobile crashes resulting from drinking and driving.

Paul’s Story is a social responsibility campaign targeting New Brunswick youth, aged 16-19. The goals of the campaign include the reduction in frequency of drinking and driving, the creation of an opportunity to have a larger discussion on the issue and to ultimately change behaviours.

The best way to reach this target audience was through a compelling online presence, given they spend a significant amount of time in the Internet world.

ANBL took a bold approach to getting the message out, by developing a story, not an ad – that was designed to play out in real-time on the Internet.

Paul’s Story consists of 10 “webisodes” that follow Paul Underhill, a fictional character, as he grapples with a tragic decision to drink and drive. It also follows Chantal Leblanc, the girlfriend of one of the young men killed, as she struggles to make sense of what happened and to determine where to lay blame.

The webisodes are augmented by text comments made by Paul and Chantal’s peers, both real and fictional.

The complete script for Paul’s Story, including the webisodes and the associated fictional text responses, has been made available here. This document is copyright 2008, ANBL. Reprinting this document either in its entirety or in part, is expressly forbidden without written permission.
